The club has a long successful history, founded over 30 years ago, making it one of the longest established
clubs in the area. Ever since it was founded, Hanshi Asano 9th Dan, Chief Instructor of the SKIEF, has regularly instructed
at the club.
The Club was founded by Albert Hampson, the then Secretary of the Shotokan Karate International GB
in 1974. Assisting Albert during the early years were Al Jones, Mick Simpson and John Crowther, who is
still teaching nearly 30 years later! Sensei Pasq Mura has now took over as Chief Instructor of the club.
Pasq has an impressive record in competition, winning the National Kumite and Kata Titles on numerous
occasions and is the current European Kumite Champion in his weight category.
The Club has maintained a high level of popularity and has one of the largest memberships of the association in the country.
Chilwell students have achieved excellent success in
championships both in kata and kumite, there is a strong team spirit within the club and
some very promising young talent coming through.
The Club holds regular competitions for the club students and invites students from other clubs to
Chilwell events in order to experience the thrill of competition.
The Club regularly enters teams into the National Championships held twice a year,(The Kumite Team were recently
National Champions- for 3 consecutive times)as well as supporting students who enter the individual events. The National
SKIGB Championships, held in the spring and autumn, have recently relocated to Chilwell Olympia.
Our objective is to ensure our students receive the greatest possible benefits from training in authentic
Japanese Karate. To do this we highly recommend that you attend training at least twice a week.
DOJO NOW AIR CONDITIONED !
You may train for a long time, but if you merely move your hands and feet and jump up and down like a puppet, learning karate is
is not very different from learning to dance. You will never have reached the heart of the matter: you will have failed to grasp
the quintessence of Karate-do.
